Nicholas I, Emperor of Russia, King of Congress Poland, and Grand Duke of Finland, passed away on March 2, 1855, at the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg at the age of 59. He was buried in the Peter and Paul Cathedral in St. Petersburg. He is succeeded by his son, Alexander II.
