Louis XVIII died on 16 September 1824. His body was washed with chlorides by French scientist Antoine Germain Labarraque to prevent odor and facilitate public viewing. He was interred at the Basilica of St Denis, the traditional necropolis of French kings. Location: Basilica of St Denis. Religion: Catholicism (official religion of France during his reign).
