His death was caused by complications from diabetes and occurred less than four months after the passing of his beloved wife, June Carter Cash. A towering figure in American music, Cash was celebrated for his rich baritone voice, genre-defying artistry, and unwavering commitment to social issues. Public funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Hendersonville, Tennessee, followed by interment beside his wife at Hendersonville Memory Gardens.
