Clive Staples Lewis, esteemed British author, literary scholar, and Anglican lay theologian, passed away on 22 November 1963, at the age of 64, from kidney failure. Born in Belfast, Ireland, on 29 November 1898, Lewis leaves behind a monumental legacy, most notably as the author of "The Chronicles of Narnia." He was a Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at Magdalen College, Oxford, and later held the chair in Mediaeval and Renaissance Literature at Magdalene College, Cambridge. A committed Christian apologist, his works profoundly influenced millions worldwide. He is buried in the churchyard of Holy Trinity Church, Headington, Oxford, alongside his brother Warren. His death was commemorated in 2013 with a memorial in Poets' Corner, Westminster Abbey.
