On August 25, 2001, at the age of 22, Aaliyah Dana Haughton tragically died in a plane crash along with eight others in the Abaco Islands, the Bahamas, shortly after takeoff. The overloaded aircraft and an unqualified pilot with traces of cocaine and alcohol were cited as contributing factors.
